Poppy Lane Buckeye
Last November, Dick Turner, Jason Dewees and I chalked our Glen Park tree tour, and some residents of the neighborhood joined us for the tour. As we meandered through Glen Park, they told us about a gigantic California Buckeye on Poppy Lane, one of Glen Park’s unpaved “country roads”. Curious, I visited the tree a couple of weeks later, and was totally wowed - I think it is the largest buckeye (Aesculus californica) in the City. I made a mental note to go back one day when the tree was in bloom.
Today was that day! Poppy Lane extends east and west of Diamond Street, so to find the tree you need to be on the part of Poppy between Diamond and Conrad Streets - it’s on the north side of the lane, and you can’t miss it.
I’m voting this tree of one San Francisco’s top 10 most impressive, so I’ll add it to my “top 10 list”, which is quickly growing into a “top 20”!
