Prunus campanulata (Taiwan cherry or Formosan cherry)

Taiwan Cherry - Rare and Beautiful! (2-24-25)

March 03, 2025 by Michael Sullivan

Richard Turner tipped me off to this beautiful tree at 171 Hartford (just downhill from 19th Street) in the Castro neighborhood. It’s Prunus campanulata (common name Taiwan cherry or Formosan cherry). More common in Southern California, but very rare here in San Francisco (I don’t know of another one in the City). Photo credits to Richard!
